The Kentshire Senior Housing
With help from the BCIA, Bergen County has moved into the vanguard of education. The result is a dramatic improvement in the quality of life not only for children with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders, but for their families as well.
BCIA recognizes the importance of meeting the needs of all Bergen County residents - particularly its senior citizens. The Kentshire in Midland Park is the direct result of this commitment. This residential facility, which opened for occupancy in April 2004, ensures that low-income seniors will have safe and affordable housing.
Through bonds sold by the BCIA, Midland Park was able to use tax-exempt funding to transform a dilapidated industrial building into a residential complex.
The result? A modern four-story structure that blends in architecturally with the neighboring community— increasing the quality of life for residents living in the area as well as for the seniors residing in the complex. Most important, the 160-unit development includes an ample number of low-and moderate-income apartments.
A full 20% of The Kentshire’s one-and two-bedroom units are affordable to seniors with income below 50% of the area’s median. The benefits to the residents and neighbors of The Kentshire are significant. The town not only has eliminated an industrial eyesore, but it has replaced it with a modern housing complex whose amenities include a great room, an exercise facility, a conference room, a card and billiard room, a computer center, a courtyard, and a swimming pool. In addition, considerable open space was preserved on the site, so that residents can enjoy fully landscaped grounds.
As a result of the BCIA’s support, Midland Park now has an attractive and much-needed housing complex —one that is an important asset to the community and to its senior citizens.
