Rebuild Bergen
The BCIA actively supports energy conservation as a way to lower energy costs and reduce taxes. Partnering with Metro Energy Solutions, a full-service energy management company, the BCIA created Rebuild BERGEN, an energy conservation program that promotes cost savings and economic development within local communities. The BCIA structured the original financing behind Rebuild BERGEN and is now helping market the program to private enterprises. Once Rebuild BERGEN is adopted by the corporate sector, the County will attract and retain more private business - thereby increasing the number of jobs available to Bergen residents.
Rebuild BERGEN gained national recognition when it received the U.S. Department of Energy's 2002 Energy Champion Award for Local Government. Now the BCIA is looking to the future and planning additional green power projects. The agenda - which includes geothermal heating and cooling systems, solar projects and fuel cells - will offset the 30%-40% price utility hike that accompanied market deregulation in the summer of 2003.
